Suzanne Brown, Director, Neighborhood & Community Initiatives, City of Hamilton

Suzanne Brown is currently the Director of Neighbourhood and Community Initiatives Division at the City of Hamilton, a position she has held since April 2105. Previously, as the manager of the Neighbourhood Action Strategy, Suzanne created and implemented an innovative for neighbourhood action planning, and wrote the Neighbourhood Action Planning Toolkit to document this work. During her tenure as manager, she facilitated and supported the development of 11 neighbourhood action plans which resulted in 481 discrete actions, many of which are underway or completed.

Suzanne worked for Public Health from 2003- 2011 in program evaluation and chronic disease prevention and led a multi-disciplinary team in the development of a position paper on the Social Determinants of Health.

Prior to joining the City of Hamilton, Suzanne spent 8 years at the Social Planning and Research Council as a Senior Social Planner where she was involved in range of social planning activities, from grassroots community development through to community-based research, policy analysis and project development. She co-authored the first Homelessness Action Plan for the city of Hamilton.

Suzanne has a Masters of Social Work in Social Welfare Policy from McMaster University, and a Bachelor of Arts from Wilfrid Laurier University.
