Stephen Buckley serves as the General Manager for Transportation Services for the City of Toronto. In that capacity, Steve oversees roughly 1,080 staff, a $330 million dollar operating budget, a $300 million dollar capital budget, and roughly $12 billion in transportation infrastructure assets. Prior to joining Toronto, Steve was the Director of Policy and Planning for the Deputy Mayor for Transportation and Utilities in Philadelphia, while also serving as Deputy Commissioner for Transportation in the Philadelphia Streets Department. His professional experience has spanned numerous aspects of the field of surface transportation – from engineering and design to transit operations, transportation planning, policy and funding.
Steve received his Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering from Syracuse University. He obtained Masters degrees in Transportation and in City Planning from the University of California – Berkeley. He is a licensed professional engineer (P.E.) in the U.S. and was a certified planner with the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP). Steve is an active member of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) and the National Association of City Transportation Officials (NACTO)
