Philippe Johnston is currently the CIO and DSO for the Natural Sciences & Engineering Research Council (NSERC) and the Social Sciences & Humanities Research Council (SSHRC). In this role, which he started in January 2017 he is supporting the success of SSHRC and NSERC programs through the development of innovative business solutions, while ensuring the safety and security of its people and information.
Prior to joining NSERC and SSHRC, Philippe was the D/CIO and Snr Director for Business Solutions and Applications Development at the Treasury Board Secretariat (TBS). In this capacity Philippe the delivery of a number of key Government of Canada (GC) systems that lead to more efficient processes and improved analytics for TBS and the GC.
He was successful in delivery key infrastructure services to TBS as Director of Infrastructure from 2011 to 2013, and prior to taking on this role developed key Cyber Defence capabilities for the GC at the Department of National Defence.
Between 2001 and 2006 he was an IT Security Consultant to various departments in Ottawa, and before then he was a Combat Systems Engineering Officer in the Canadian Navy.
He has two wonderful daughters, Brielle and Abby, and is married to his lovely wife, Renee.
