Naveen Sharma currently severs as the chair of Software Engineering department at RIT. The department, a first in the nation, is internationally recognized for Software Engineering education and its innovative teaching methods. The department is rapidly growing faculty research strengths broadly focused on data-driven approaches to all core areas of software engineering for modern computing platforms and paradigms. Naveen’s own research interests lie in applications of Software Engineering research and innovations to high-impact areas such as smart cities and health care.
Prior to joining RIT, Naveen spent a number of years at Xerox and PARC (Palo Alto Research Center) where he held a variety of roles. As the Director of PARC’s Computing and Information Services Lab (CISL) he oversaw the competency development and innovations in scalable computing for business process and document solutions, big data analytics, and human computations. In his role as the Chief Innovation Officer for ITO Services Group, Naveen focused on IT services innovations focused on data analytics, retail, and manufacturing verticals. He was responsible for participating in the development of ITO strategy. As a PARC Principle Scientist, Naveen made several scientific and business contributions in the area of distributed large-scale systems. Throughout his tenure at Xerox, Naveen was involved in technology transfer and the delivery of product ready code to Xerox business groups. Prior to joining Xerox, Naveen was a Research Assistant Professor at the Institute for Computational Science (ICM), Kent State University in Ohio, a position funded by a National Science Foundation Higher Performance Computing grant.
Naveen has a master’s degree in mechanical engineering and a doctorate in computer science. He holds 30+ U.S. patents and patent applications, and has published 25+ peer-reviewed research papers.
