His Worship Mayor Mark Heyck was born and raised in Yellowknife. He attended McGill University in Montreal where he studied History and Canadian Studies. Mayor Heyck previously worked at the Prince of Wales Northern Heritage Centre, as the Website and Multimedia Coordinator. He was first elected to Yellowknife City Council in 2003 and served as Deputy Mayor from 2006 to 2012. During his time on Council, he chaired the City’s Heritage Committee and Community Energy Planning Committee. Since 2007, he has also been a member of the Federation of Canadian Municipalities’ Green Municipal Fund Council and currently serves as the Vice-Chair. Mayor Heyck was elected as Yellowknife’s 14th Mayor in the fall of 2012.
