Lori Houston was appointed Assistant City Manager in July of 2015. Prior to her arrival to the City Manager’s Office she served as the Director of the Center City Development & Operations Department. Lori had been with the Center City Development Office since its creation in 2008. Ms. Houston was essential in bringing a grocery store to downtown. Her efforts will result in over $630 million in investment in the center city, which will ultimately yield over 7,300 housing units.
Ms. Houston led the redevelopment of Travis Park and the formation of a committee to re-imagine Alamo Plaza. She also successfully spearheaded the effort to negotiate a P3 deal that will result in a consolidated office tower for City operations, facilitate the development of 265 new housing units in the Central Business District and forever alter San Antonio’s skyline with the construction of the first new office tower downtown since 1989.
Ms. Houston started with the city in 2002 as an intern. Prior to working in the Center City Development and Operations Department, Lori worked in the City Manager’s Office where she managed several high profile initiatives to include serving as the Project Manager for the $72 million Museum Reach Urban Segment of the San Antonio River Improvements Project which extended the San Antonio River 1.3 miles north.
In her role as Assistant City Manager Ms. Houston will continue oversight of CCDO and Department of Arts and Culture, Eastpoint & Real Estate, Office of Historic Preservation, and World Heritage.
