Mr. Leo de Bever recently retired as CEO of Alberta Investment Management Corporation (AIMCo), one of Canada’s largest institutional investment managers with $85 billion of assets under management. He joined AIMCo as first CEO in August 2008.
He started his 40-year career at the Bank of Canada in Ottawa in 1975, and has served financial institutions in Canada, the U.S, Japan and Australia, including nearly ten years as senior vice-president at the Ontario Teachers’ Pension Plan. He has in the past acted as advisor to the Norwegian Pension Plan, and Dutch pension fund APG. He is a Senior Fellow of the C.D. Howe Institute.
Leo grew up in the Netherlands. He received a B.A. in economics from the University of Oregon, and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Wisconsin.
He is currently working on commercialization of new technology with a number of small companies, notably as Chairman of Oak Point Energy.
