Karen Scian is a Waterloo City Councillor and Chair of the Finance and Strategic Planning Committee at the City of Waterloo. She holds a Bachelor of Science from the University of Waterloo, a Bachelor of Education from Western, and a Master of Arts in Leadership. Karen has spearheaded Waterloo’s commitment to open and transparent government by hosting innovative online events such as an All-Access Budget Townhall, Twitter Townhalls, and working with the community to revamp the City of Waterloo’s Citizen Committees. Karen is an instructor at Conestoga College’s School of Business and Hospitality, teaching Civic Engagement, Urban Studies, Ethics, and Sustainability Management to tomorrow’s leaders. She is also a trustee of the Waterloo Public Library and the Chair of the Board of Directors for Community Justice Initiatives (CJI), a local restorative justice organization.
