Julianna (Julie) Charchun has been Edmonton Mayor Don Iveson’s Chief of Staff since December 2013. Prior to that, Julie worked for the City of Edmonton as a Senior Policy Advisor in intergovernmental relations and as a Legislative Services Advisor with the City Clerk.
Julie’s broad research background ranges from educational practice in math and traditional aboriginal teaching, to evaluation of a parenting support program, to how beliefs about responsibility for caregiving influence women’s decisions to do paid work. This evidence-based perspective enables her to navigate policy-making and the business of city building within Mayor Iveson’s office and among related stakeholder groups.
Julie was President of the Graduate Students’ Association at the University of Alberta in 2007-2008, which included a term on the university’s Board of Governors. More recently, Julie wrapped up a five-year term as a Director of the YWCA Edmonton.
