Living and working in Hamilton, Jay is the Hamilton Program Manager with Evergreen – a national non-profit and charity organization working to make cities more livable. As a transplant from rural Nova Scotia into one of the densest regions of Canada, Jay is a proud downtown Hamilton resident committed to engaging others on the importance of nature and sustainable and inclusive development in our cities and neighbourhoods.
In his work, Jay helps to transform existing local ideas for better communities into action through capacity building, fostering multi-sectoral networks and problem solving, and the development and implementation of a diversity of programs, projects, and events. Through programs like 100in1Day Hamilton and the animation and operation of a shared, low-barrier community space, Jay has engaged tens of thousands of residents and stakeholders to implement hundreds of different initiatives addressing urban naturalization, public art, affordable housing, community engagement, West Harbour redevelopment, and active transportation.
Prior to joining the Evergreen team, Jay helped in establishing the Hamilton Sustainability Professionals Network, Environment Hamilton’s Bicycle Air Monitoring Program, and Hamilton’s Engagement Committee and has held a variety of positions with the City of Hamilton and regional non-profits.
