Named “One of the most influential people in Seattle” for 2013, Clayton Wood is Chief Executive Officer at Synapse, a leading product development firm, bringing “what’s next” in technology to life. Synapse has created breakout devices in the mobile payment, guest experience, and wearable fitness industries for brands like Nike, Phillips, Samsung, The San Francisco 49ers, and GE. He joined Synapse in 2011 to provide business leadership as the company evolved from a boutique design firm into a leading brand in innovation for companies ranging from startups to the Fortune 100.
Clayton’s technology leadership career includes more than a decade at Honeywell Aerospace where he led an international consortium developing an internet for commercial aircraft communication. As the Leader of Honeywell’s Flight Data Recorder business, his team assisted the FBI to recover the cockpit voice recordings from United Airlines Flight 93 in the days following 9/11.
More recently Clayton has held leadership and advisory roles in start-ups including a Gates Foundation funded non-profit, and a residential scale wind energy company. He was an early leader at Naverus, now a unit of GE, which is revolutionizing commercial airline navigation to make it dramatically more efficient, more reliable, and safer. An alumnus of the University of Washington Foster School of Business, Clayton has acted as an advisor to multiple startups licensing technology developed at the University and is an active participant as a judge in the University’s Environmental Innovation Challenge competition.
