Chris Murray has been the City Manager of Hamilton since January 1, 2009. Since that time, Chris has spent considerable time moving forward on the City’s priorities and evaluating its delivery of citizen-centred services. Under his leadership, the City has forged ahead with a number of City building initiatives including the Pan Am Games and Pan Am stadium, a renewed focus on the downtown and waterfront, a mobility strategy, healthy neighbourhood program and most recently an Immigrant Entrepreneur Program. He is most committed to ensuring the 7800 employees that work for the City of Hamilton proudly serve the citizens and businesses of this community.
Chris is a registered professional planner with over 25 years experience implementing and leading major infrastructure projects, including the recent LRT and GO initiatives, the Downtown McMaster University – City of Hamilton Health Campus, and the Red Hill Valley Parkway.
Prior to becoming City Manager, Chris was the Director of Housing and CEO of City Housing Hamilton, where he worked with community partners to provide housing options for Hamilton’s most vulnerable.
Chris has also led various regional transportation initiatives, having been a driving force in the creation of the Golden Horseshoe Transportation Alliance.
