Mr. Zubko is Chief Operating Officer of Ice Wireless, a Northern-based telecommunications company providing 3G/4G mobile service, fixed line telephone, and high speed Internet to the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. As COO, Mr. Zubko is responsible for managing the day-to-day operation of the company. Mr. Zubko motivates and leads a high performance team to ensure that the company has the proper infrastructure, systems, and personnel in place to effectively grow the organization, ensure financial strength, and guarantee operating efficiency. Mr. Zubko oversees all front line and customer facing positions such as provisioning and customer care as well as maintains quality assurance of Ice Wireless products and services.
Mr. Zubko led Ice Wireless’ rollout of 3G/4G by building new towers, equipment shelters and earth stations across the Yukon, Northwest Territories and Nunavut. For the construction of this new network, Mr. Zubko was responsible for planning, budgeting, regulatory and permitting, site identification and acquisition, municipal & community government relations, civil works, logistics, and contractor management.
Prior to heading up operations for Ice Wireless, Mr. Zubko spent ten years of his professional career in trade and investment with a focus on developing markets. In London and in New York, Mr. Zubko worked in corporate and investment banking for Scotia Capital, managing a portfolio of $1 billion. Mr. Zubko has also been engaged as a private equity consultant for the United Nations Industrial Development Organization in the area of foreign direct investment. In China, Mr. Zubko served on diplomatic assignment at the Canadian Embassy in Beijing and supported the Canadian government in various trade and investment initiatives. Mr. Zubko has also been active in the Olympics, having provided project management and support for exposition pavilions at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing and 2010 Olympics in Vancouver.
Mr. Zubko is originally from the Inuvialiut community of Inuvik, Northwest Territories. He holds a Bachelor of International Business from the University of Victoria, Canada. He speaks Mandarin Chinese.
