Brian Bigger is the 5th Mayor of the City of Greater Sudbury.
Born, raised, and educated in Greater Sudbury, Mayor Bigger has seen a community transformed in many ways and has a strong vision for the future.
Some of Mayor Bigger’s top priorities include building confidence in local government, making financially prudent investments in capital and quality of life infrastructure, and attracting newcomers to the community.
As a Certified Professional Accountant, Mayor Bigger has many years of experience working in both the private and public sector with a focus on innovative business solutions and advocating for openness and accountability. Prior to being elected Mayor in 2014, Mayor Bigger held roles at Sears Canada, the Regional Municipality of Halton, and served as the City of Greater Sudbury’s first Auditor General.
Mayor Bigger has long believed that Greater Sudbury is well positioned as a regional economic cluster thanks to its highly skilled and culturally diverse workforce. Well known for its international excellence in mining, mining service and supply, and environmental remediation, Greater Sudbury has evolved into a dynamic and diverse regional service hub in areas including health care, research, education, and tourism for all of northeastern Ontario.
Mayor Bigger is actively engaged in the community and is a member of numerous boards of directors including the Sudbury Food Bank, Greater Sudbury Development Corporation, and the Sudbury Airport Community Development Corporation. Mayor Bigger is also proud to represent Greater Sudbury on the boards of FONOM, NOLUM, and MARCO/LUMCO.
Mayor Bigger lives in Greater Sudbury with his wife Lori, wife of 37 years. They have two children and are proud grandparents of three little boys.
