Ada M. Healey directs all real estate strategies for Vulcan Inc., a Paul G. Allen company, and oversees its diverse and active development portfolio.
Healey has been instrumental in the redevelopment of nearly 60 acres the company owns in Seattle’s South Lake Union neighborhood, where Vulcan is working with the city and community to create a new model for sustainable, mixed-use urban development. Notably, Healey has instituted a real estate philosophy within Vulcan called the “Triple Bottom Line” approach that evaluates potential real estate projects and measures success according to three criteria: environmental, community and financial accountability. As the vice president of real estate at Vulcan, Healey oversees nearly $2 billion in real estate assets. . To date, Vulcan has developed 5.2 million square feet in 25 new office, biotech, residential and mixed-use projects. The company owns another 24 acres ripe for redevelopment with the capacity for another 4 to 6 million square feet.
Since joining Vulcan in 2001, Healey has built a real estate team of more than 30 professionals with the expertise to provide a full range of development and portfolio management services. Under Healey’s leadership, Vulcan has earned extensive national recognition and honors for its innovative development approaches and commitment to sustainability.
Healey is an active participant in various local real estate, community and business organizations, including the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco (Seattle branch), Urban Land Institute, Downtown Seattle Association, Seattle Chamber of Commerce, and the International Women’s Forum.
Prior to joining Vulcan, Healey worked for nearly 10 years at ING Clarion, holding various positions in asset management, acquisitions and portfolio management. She successfully managed a nationwide equity portfolio of office, retail and industrial assets valued in excess of $3 billion on behalf of several of the nation’s largest institutional investors. Prior to that role, Healey spent several years at NYNEX Properties Company (now Verizon Communications), where she managed the company’s financing activity, worked on acquisition opportunities and developed corporate real estate strategies. Healey began her career in the insurance industry, working for the Sedgwick Group, London and in New York City for Metropolitan Reinsurance Company. She holds a B.A. from Duke University and an M.B.A. from New York University’s Leonard N. Stern School of Business.
